Each resident of St George’s halfway house is afforded one individual counselling session per week. This is a vital component of their work and affords individuals the opportunity to express themselves in private. All St Georges councillors are former addicts whom have been reintegrated themselves and carry substantial “sober time”. Their experiences provide them a clear advantage of addiction, recovery and reintegration and the pitfalls that the person in counselling can and will face. All counsellors are fully qualified for this work; the counselling is tailored to the person’s own circumstances, personal life and step work process. St George’s halfway house has trained staff on sight 24/7 should any resident need support or assistance. Accountability and community are pillars in recovery and St Georges strives to live by these principals and therefore individual counselling is compulsory for residents at St George’s.
